getting started with comvet connect
Comvet Connect is not just a livestock record keeping platform, we want to help you farm better. To enable you to get the most out of it you will need to book an animal health management planning session with our in-house vet to discuss and plan your animal health programme that will be added to your farm profile. Doing so ensures that you and your consultant vet are on the same page in terms of farm management.

Farm Setup
Farm setup on Comvet Connect involves entering farm information as well as animal information. This information will be used in deciding which animals will require specific tasks. It also helps us to have an idea of the makeup of your flock or herd which is an important factor in deciding how best your farm should be managed. Additionally there is a questionnaire that needs to be completed at this stage to help us better understand how you currently manage your farm. The consultant vet will review this information and identify key discussion points based on the information you have provided.

The vet will systematically go through the major aspects of animal health management that you can use Comvet Connect for which are vaccination, external parasite control, internal parasite control as well as nutrition management in the context of vitamin and mineral management. We will also discuss any other pertinent issues you would like to discuss.

You will be provided access to this training material which should help you better understand animal health management. Additionally we will also discuss how to prepare an emergency medication kit for those unexpected situations that may arise.
Lastly we will provide a brief tour on how to use Comvet Connect to help you get the most out of it.

Drafting of animal health programme.
Comvet Connect allows us to quickly create your programme as we discuss however, the consultant vet may need more time to complete your programme after the consultation. After the consultation the vet will further review the notes and information taken during the discovery consultation to finalise the initial draft of your programme however this might take up-to a week. Programmes are typically drafted for an initial period of 6 – 8 months however the full period of a programme is 12 months, and the last months will be gradually added as we review the current progress.
A full review at the end of the 12-month period will be done to allow us to draft a refreshed programme for the following 12-month period/cycle as required.

Programme Review and Updates.
During the 12-month period for which the health programme is valid for, the consultant vet may suggest reviews and updates for your programme. This will typically be prompted by findings from the monthly report, farm records e.g. whenever you record an excessive number of deaths, management status information, prevailing conditions e.g. disease outbreaks as well as communication about certain issues we receive from you.
Keeping records accurate and up to date allows the consultant vet to review farm records to make more balanced recommendations.

Analysis of the programme.
Towards the end of the 12-month period for which the health programme would have been valid for, your consultant vet will analyse the current programme as well as information from the farm reports to potentially identify trends which may be helpful when drafting a new programme. This will help in creating a more precise programme for the next 12-month period.
At the end of the 12-month period you can then decide whether to renew the programme and retain your consultant vet if you wish, otherwise the consultant vet will no longer be assigned to your farm to offer his advisory and management support services.
